Document Summary

Monomers bind to ligand, form a dimer (dimerization), autophosphorilization, receptor becomes active. Activated by the exchange of gdp for gtp - this is triggered by binding to sos (change in conformation/affinity) Protein needs a specific shape to be able to interact with the phosphorylated tyrosines. Ras does not have the proper shape, adapter proteins are stacked together to get proper shape. Activated ras leads to activation of map- kinase, leads to activation of transcription factors. Gene can be activated (transcribed) more than once, all from one receptor. Phospholipase c - can interact directly with receptor without need for adapter protein. Lipase : cuts lipids pip2, releasing , binds to ip3 gated channel, and releases calcium from the er. When plc binds to receptor, it releases two second messengers (ip3 activates another channel that releases calcium (more than in ligand gated channels)) adapter proteins. Sh2 domain is needed to be able to bind to tyrosine.
