CRM 2301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Arson, Menopause
Document Summary
What is influencing someone: individuals have no choice to have behaviour they have. Assumption that there is something in the individual that gives them no choice of doing what they do: difference between criminals and non-criminals. Physical differences are associated with deviant behaviour. Cause between physical anomaly and the behaviour of a person (relationship between both) Making observations on certain body parts and associate these to different behaviours: isolating distinguishing features. Problematic to assume differences: at the time it was very much accepted, judgments of certain individuals were normal. Based on science itself: now being more careful with language. Clear intention of applying what was learnt to observe in greater depth: treatment conducted, harmful for individuals being treated/analyzed. Being as objective as possible: it was actually anything but non-partisan. Classification --- judgement: different classifications for different psychological and biological ways. Can be problematic when an individual is lesser than others. There was a distinction between the norm and exceptional.
