Was the ending suicide, or an accident? the son said i will stay with you until you die and the father said. He died on the last day of fishing season, when they were coming back (almost as if he wants to the father wanted to go to university. There is an element of projection (father wants to give what. He wanted to his son) (keep in mind this is if the case was suicide) Link with his father: (1) they both smoke he wakes up to death everyday (the ashtray is overflowing with corpse, extinction of spark) (2) death of father (3) fishing. This is a coming of age story: finds a deeper understanding of a boat (brings understanding of significance) rites of passage, idealistic to realistic, gain responsibility, expectations (decisions) , figure out identity. Expectations: family obligations (fishing) and individual future (literature, going to school).
