In the 1500s, manuscripts were created for children"s moral development. Childhood became a substantial fact/period of time during the medieval years. John newbery (18c) become one of the first successfully financial and profilific publishers of children"s literature. Developed more for the middle class child than lower class child"s. Children became more visible during this time. First publication: a little pretty pocket book which was intended for the instruction and amusement of little master tommy and pretty miss polly . Was the first person to create the children"s literature genre. During 17th and 18th centuries continued to have lessons/moral underlining"s. Opening the eyes of children and allowing them to perceive the word in their own ways without preconceived notions. Use of their imagination and their own interpretations. Up until newbery, children books were seen as embarrassments to the academic world. Shift in this comes from universities, research>now considered as critical as adult fiction/literature. Mid 18th century to early 19th century.
