Document Summary
How was it exploited/accepted: mid-century nationalism across europe (selections): a. italy; b. habsburg. Another interesting sub-narrative in term of the german unification process and nationalism. There is not a cohesive nationalism created overnight and we end up seeing elements that come into effect for the nationalising project to work. One of the ways to do so is to look at the regions. In 1805, w rttemberg fights with france against prussia, because they did not feel as one and no connection with prussia existed. In 1813, they also fight against anti-german forces. W rttemberg avoids any positive contact with prussia. Between 1866 and 1871, w rttemberg keeps most of its elements of autonomy. They have their own royal house, their own parliament and their own constitution. Regional symbols like coins are minted locally and they have their own stamps, their own postal service, their own railway service, their own school system.
