APA 3122 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Motivation
Document Summary
Sdt is meta theory of human motivation, used to explain volitional behavior of people (relationships, business, work. ) Sdt & physical activity: underlying reasons for participation can range from external reasons (obtain a reward, lose weight) to internal (pleasure, relaxation. ) Self-determination continuum: amotivation, extrinsic motivation (external motivation, short-term adaption of behavior), intrinsic (internal, more psychological benefits, likely to be longer lasting. ) Sdt continuum: range of motivations, people can go through different stages, regress forward or backward. Reasoning can be made up of different motivations. Amotivation: non-regulation, impersonal, people with no intention to do the activity. Regulated by feelings of incompetence or failure, people who aren"t active. (ex: people who don"t go to the gym. ) Extrinisic motivations: external regulation: least self-determined (closest to left side of continuum), done for external reasons/doing to look good.
