Cns drugs (act on brain & spinal cord) are used for medical & nonmedical purposes. Medial uses: psychiatric disorder treatment, seizure suppression, pain relief & anesthesia production. Nonmedical uses: stimulant, depressant, euphoriant, & othe(cid:396) (cid:862)(cid:373)i(cid:374)d-alte(cid:396)i(cid:374)g(cid:863) a(cid:271)ilities. Anatomic & neurochemical complexity of brain & spinal cord limits understanding cns & drugs used to influence it. Cns contains at least 21 compounds serving as neurotransmitters; more compounds yet to be discovered cuz there are many sites within cns where no transmitter is identified. We have detailed info about biochemistry & electrophysiology of cns transmitters, but unable to relate known info in precise way to behavioral or psychological processes.
