Declaraion of the right of man and the ciizen (1789) Dr. king"s core philosophy: central teaching. All humans are equal and have dignity. Civil disobedience was his core strategic response to oppression and was founded upon a set of morals. Philosophy of personalism: individual beings are at the centre of philosophical concern, uplits human personality = just, degrades human personality = unjust. Three ways of dealing with oppression: method of surrender. The oppressed accepts the condiions of discriminaion, segregaion, colonialism, etc: method of violence. The oppressed rise up against the oppressor with hatred and physical violence. This method has weakness because it causes more social problems than solving any: method of nonviolence. The oppressed neither accepts the condiions, nor surrenders, nor does he use violence against the oppressor. Rises against the oppressor but in a non-violent way.
