Instincts theory: according to this theory, insitincts motivates human behavior, genetically determined to behave in a specific way when a certain stimulus is present. We have basic biological needs that must be satisfied, if they are not, tension will build in the person. Optimal arousal: must maintain a level of arousal in humans and animals, if too little, we get bored, if its too high, too much tension and stress. Hierarchy of motives: according to maslow, we have physiological and psychological needs, they motivate us to make sure our needs are satisfy, however some needs take precedence over others.
