Heritability for mdd and bd are related but distinct: all mood disorders have concordance rate for identical twins 2-3x higher than fraternal twin. Clearly biological vulnerability but also a stress/psychological factor: negative affect (temperament/neuroticism) is the main biological tendency for mood and anxiety disorders. General tendency to experience anxious or low mood. + critical upbringing may lead to depression. + unpredictable upbringing may lead to anxiety.
