BIOB11H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Transcription Preinitiation Complex, Tata-Binding Protein, Restriction Site
Document Summary
Lec 4 - heterogeneous nuclear rna (hnrna) synthesis & processing. When eukaryotic cells incubated for short time in huridine or phosphate and immediately killed most radioactivity found in rna mol that have these properties: They are represented by rnas of diverse (heterogeneous) nucleotide sequence. Referred to as heterogeneous nuclear rnas (hnrnas) Constitutes only a small portion of the rna in the cell. Formation of hnrna and its conversion into smaller mrnas. Larger the rna, the farther it travels during centrifugation closer to the bottom of the tube. Evident that the newly synthesized rnas are larger these are the hnrnas. Large hnrnas have been processed into smaller rna products. All eukaryotic mrna precursors are made by rna polymerase 2. Rna polymerase 2 binds the promoter w/ cooperation of a number of general transcription factors (gtfs) Initiation of transcription from a eukaryotic polymerase 2 promoter: binding of a protein tata-binding protein (tbp) Polymerase can"t recognize a promoter on its own.
