Document Summary

These two graphs show the scores getting lower over the years. In 2018, around 600,000 students from 79 countries participated in pisa. In canada, over 22,500 students from approximately 800 schools participated across the 10 provinces. The major focus of pisa 2018 was reading, while math and science were tested as minor domains. Global competence was an innovative domain and financial literacy was an optional minor domain in 2018. Pisa is valuable for its capacity to provide comparative information on the skill levels of students as they near the end of compulsory education. Not only does pisa enable comparisons between provinces and countries, it provides an opportunity to monitor how these skill levels change over time as well. Results from pisa show educators and policy makers the quality and equity of learning outcomes achieved elsewhere, and allow them to learn from the policies and practices applied in other countries.
