Document Summary

Population: a set of subject s of interest in a study: the entire group of individuals that we want information. Sample: a subset of a population in which the study reflects data. Surveys: two types of surveys: census: data collection about every unit in a group or population ex. the 2016 census, sample survey: data collection about only a part of the units in a group or population (sample) A census is not necessarily better than a survey. It can be difficult to carry out a census because some individuals are hard to locate or hard to measure. Take a complete census is time and money consuming. The population changes while the data is collected, and your finding might not be relevant to the current population by the time you complete your census. Estimates based on a survey sample is often more accurate than estimated based on a census.
