We are going to keep talking about the megafauna extinctions briefly. Pnas had a whole issue devoted on megafauna extinctions around the topic of how the extinction of the megafauna influenced the ecosystems, implying that scholars have accepted that it is a situation in which . Look at modern extinction, which is extinction that is happening in the modern era. Take a look at how that appears spatially and geographically and taxonomically. Look at some example species and see how these general rules work. Gives you a sense of the kind of species richness that existed in the northern hemisphere, just beneath the poles in an ecosystem that is again that has been called mammoth steppe by various authors. You can see that that ecosystem extended all the way across this __ boreal system to actually extended to the temperate regions in the last interglacial because temperatures were generally colder.
