When this happens, theres a massive production of cytokines and the localized inflammation is just out of control. Sepsis is one of the cytokine storm driven diseases. People go from sepsis to severe sepsis because there are several factors that can have a significant contribution, such as the age or health of the patient. Mortality rate is starting to decrease because of better treatment. There is a high rate of mortality associated with severe sepsis. The very young and elderly are more affected because their immune system is too immature or a weakened immune system. One of the most common that can induce sepsis is by gram negative bacteria.
