Torah can refer to the whole stream of jewish learnings or potentially refer to the pentateuch. Torah refers to the first 5 books (pentateuch) Kiddush: blessing that was said on the sabbath over drinks (often wine or grape juice) and food by the women; women usually light candles and men would go to the seneca. Blessing at time is used towards children and grandchildren for peace, good feelings. Mentions the day, and blesses over the drink. Women must light the candles at a particular time in order to prevent breaking sabbath laws. Kiddush is followed by hand washing and blessing over the bread. Kiddush is very gendered; all have male suffixes. Debate over whether or not women are included within the blessing. Or does the gender suffixes refer to gender neutral. Hellinistic period: daughters were property of fathers before they got married where they became the property of their husbands; female were not recognized as citizens i. e. cannot own property.
