PCL102H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Genetic Disorder, Tumor Suppressor Gene, Drug Discovery
Document Summary
Tumor suppressor prteins can act at several locations along the signaling pathway. The first thing that happens is a mutation activates a tumor suppressor gene. Cancer is seen in older invidiausl because the concequences of admaga eh have had the time to manifest as tumors. The idea is that the cancer cells are replicating faster than normal cells, so chemotherapy has a greater effect on the faster multiplying cancer cells than healthy cells. Targeted therapy is where a drug is aimed idirectly at the tumor druggable proteins are proteins that can be altered by drugs. Take a biopsy and look at the genome and the proteome. There is huge amounts of mutations in cancerous genomes. Challenge 2: challenge 1 was trying to personalize the treatment to the specific genome, but the genome is constantly changing over time. Certain proteins seem to be really important for deciding what happens in a tumor.
