PSY 100: LEC 1
Ta b l e o f C o n t e n t s
Thoughts, feelings, behaviour, conscience all relate, think about someone you care
about and someone who's had a hard life
Can we blame others when they lived a hard life
Two types of people, kind and nice people and the opposite
Why are you here
- interested in learning about people, want to expand my knowledge
How accessible a persons reasons are and what kind of reasons they have is really
important for anything
Intrinsic (interest) and extrinsic (outside benefits) reasons
Intrinsic > extrinsic
Fundamental insight #1
If you ever stuck with something long enough, then you have experienced during the
early learning stages that it is a drag
You're so bad at stuff, that it makes it difficult to get something out of it
Reality is a story, told to us by our brains
There is reality, but we interpret it in a certain way
Our brains are artists not mirrors
- our experiences do not reflect reality itself. But rather a construction or representation
of reality
1. This construction process involves a lot of guess works, filling in the gaps
2. This subjective representation occurs within the brain
