Another way our brains deceive us is through the use of heuristics, or cognitive short cuts. Representativeness heuristics: making decisions based on the extent to which information seems similar to a category you have in mind. Framing effects: language can alter how things feel, and thus can change our perception of their reality. Availability heuristics: the tendency to judge the probability of an event by how easily it is to think of examples or instances. It is easy to be tricked by one"s heuristics since they basically do our thinking for us. The confirmation bias: the tendency to look for or pay attention only to information that confirms our beliefs, we tend to ask questions only about what we already think is true.
