Document Summary

Psychological theories only make predictions about observable behaviours. The view that knowledge comes from sensory experience. Go out and make observations this is where our beliefs come from. Empirical evidence refers to the data that has been collected (or the knowledge that has been gained) by scientific observation. Contrast with some unscientific ways of reasoning or forming beliefs about the world . Authority: trusting what they say is true. Logic: using logic to reason through something. Theory: typically statements about the causal relation between two or more variables. Theories rest on a mountain of evidence after tests of empirical evidence. Incorrect to say you prove a hypothesis rather it is supported or confirmed. In the absence of determinism, orderly, systematic causes wouldn"t exist, and theories would be useless. Orderly behaviours exist so there is no chaos allows us to form theories. Tend to get tossed around out of scientific context.
