Document Summary

Not necessary to understand cognitive neuroscience & perception in detail as there are other courses that specialize in these two topics. Inhibitory activity: fewer action potentials compared to spontaneous firing. Electrodes are placed around the scalp and activity in brain is measured. The brain: midbrain: vision and hearing, pons: relay station + passes information from the cerebellum to the rest of the brain, cerebellum: motor control + fine tuning voluntary actions, medulla: muscle tone + breathing rate + heart rate. The brain (another way of looking at the brain is): brodmann areas (don"t memorize the areas, based on the cellular structure of the brain, the numbers don"t mean anything. This tells us that the area is necessary, but not whether the area is sufficient as there may be other areas that can also do this: damage to wernicke"s area does not affect language production for broca"s area.
