All human societies have languages, music and religion. Religion is always affecting us; it has never left the public sphere. It has inspired art, monuments and it is fundamental. We are the only one that seems to reach out beyond ourselves. We do things to experience reality in a different way, where as others don"t. The study of religion started with scientific revolution. Before the revolution, there was nothing to distance you from it. The protestant revolution (europe seized to be one religion) 30 years wars (catholics vs. protestants) Europeans moved to north america there wasn"t any religion to be seen . It was unsettling for the christians and it undermined the trust in the universality of religion. Europeans understood that there was more than one religion and this is a true religion and that is a false one did not apply. Ways to study religion: anthropology, sociology, and phenomenology. Structural how the religion works (churches and shit).
