Document Summary

Need reconstruction of paleoenvironmental environments b/c of this pressing subject. Examples of how scientists tried to predict the change of the temperatures. See figure: 2 x co2 (global net) See figure: 4 x co2 (global net) Increasing co2 most evident in polar regions (redder regions) Globes: predict sea ice coverage: when we increase co2 by 4 x (increasing temperature) the sea ice (white is gone) Need to look at past to see if these predictions align with what has happened in the past: that is why it is important to reconstruct past conditions, then we can predict the future conditions. But for how far back do we have numerical data: are they reliable, numerical data of about 200 years is accurate. Have huge gaps in time where there are no measurements. Most of measurements from 200 years ago came from europe.
