Understanding culture of others" culture: is difficult and may people feel odd, irrational or inferior: known as ethnocentrism. Cliterectomy (female genital mutilation, fgm): over 90% of women go through this. In general, we should respect other cultures, however, as responsible citizens, our understanding should draw the line , we should have values we follow. So we can reasonably oppose certain cultural studies that goes against human dignity (like cliterectomy) Consumerism: is a lifestyle that involves defining one"s self in terms of the goods one purchases. We have a tendency define ourselves through the things we buy(cars, clothes) We advertise our sexual availability and unavailability through our clothes.
