There used to be a large difference between social anthropology and cultural anthropology: after the world wars, the many similarities were seen and the two fields were put together. They had to do with the relationship between genders, marriage and colonialism etc. The 19th century was obsessed with finding the origins of the world and everything in it: no one cared about the world in the present, malinowski made people start questioning the world around them. Boas: he was more concerned about the status of aboriginal populations in north. America: there was no way that people could imagine that they were living in the same way that they had always lived due to colonialism.
