Genetic engineering the techniques which recombine dna fragments from different sources into new molecules with unique features create new dna molecules that have novel features. Engineering of biological systems (manipulating organisms dna) with goal of carrying out novel functions of performing existing functions more efficiently. Use same process as recombinant dna but to do something better. Humans have been doing it through classical genetic selection: dog breeding, plant breeding, plant/crop livestock breeding. Classical genetics: slow: limited by the breeding time of organism and change of genetic events, limited: exchange of genetic materials is limited to breeding species. Recombinant: rapid: as quick as a few days in organisms, no limitations, puts dna from bacteria into humans and vice versa.
