Glial cells mesenchymal cells (poorly differentiating migrating cells) Neurofilaments: nfl light, nfm medium, nfh heavy. Lamins: not found in specific type of cells. As skin cells are being produced suck back cytoplasm. Left with keratin shells (hair, nails etc. ) Layer in the middle of epidermis contains keratin cross-linked network: no keratin = loss of tissue integrity. Description: not globular (not made of small components, no cleft for ntp, no polarity, no motor proteins. Phosphatase takes phosphate off allowed to polymerize. Tetramers come together to form protofilament no energy input **not as much as actin & tubulin **(see this with biotin experiment) Plectin: links microtubules & intermediate filaments together giving support to microtubule (tensile strength) Lap2 (lamin associated proteins): link lamins to plasma membrane: ankyrin: link vimentin to plama membrane. Skin cells need to form barrier (stuck together) and stick to ecm: no cytoskeleton = membrane not strong, desmosomes = between cells, hemidesmosomes = between cells & ecm.
