Golgi is the next step for proteins after the er in the secretory pathway. Vesicles are used to move er-golgi and golgi-er. We don"t really understand how vesicles move between the golgi stacks. ~ notice cisternal maturation = kinda seems like the cisternae mature and then move up (we really have no clue what happens) ~ some things at the end of the golgi will be secreted, some will go to endosomes and some will go to lysosomes. Can often see membranes forming vesicles that bud-off the ends of these membranes and travel to other places (endosomes, lysosomes, cell surface) When you look at the golgi, it can be split up into: Cis golgi = cgn = closest to the er. Trans golgi = tgn = furthest from the er (closest to the cell. Responsible for the processing and sorting of proteins that have been sorted to the er.
