Document Summary
Water makes up ~60% of an adult"s body weight. Water carries nutrients to the cells so that they can work as intended. Water carries waste products away from the cells. Water serves as a solvent for just about everything. It can hold vitamins, minerals, amino acids, glucose, etc. throughout the body. Water helps to maintain our body temperature through sweat. Water is incompressible, which means that the molecules cannot be crowded. Acts as a lubricant and cushion for the joints. Lubricates the digestive and respiratory tracts and mucus linings. Maintains optimal pressure on the retina and lens of the eye. It sends thirst signals when we need to consume more water. We have to remember to pay attention to these signals and satisfy the thirst to avoid dehydration. The majority comes from drinking liquids (e. g. , water, milk, juice, coffee, tea, etc. )
