Women low status = property of men. Couldn"t make rational decisions - need men"s guidance. Physically - no ensure she was a virgin, capable to bear children, attractive enough. Women = sinners and temptresses = scrutized more than men. According to church, sex only in confines of marriage. Sex was not to be enjoyed for recreational purposes; only for precreation. Therefore, any other type of sex was prohibited. Church became obsessed with punishing those who engaged in other types of sex with other people. Ideas deviant behaviour intensified with the emergence courtly love. Originated in south of france by troubadours (travelling musicians and poets) Courtly love"s name emerged because it being practiced in royal court. Courtly love rejected economic union; instead based on romantic feelings.
