Labour = those who have to sell capacity to work at a job for wage or salary. Relation of labour and capital is a main focus of political economy. It often involves conflict over wages, hours, conditions, etc. Media jobs strongly associated with ideal of creative work . With intrinsic rewards in terms of artistry, self-expression, and self development. Workers are younger than in other sectors. Work is irregular, contracts are short-term, there is little job protection. A median wage means that the same number of working people have wages above that mark as those with wages below that mark. Median wages are more representative of earnings than averages because 1% of the wealthiest make so much that they skew the overall average. Symbol creators = artists and performers, authors, musicians, etc. Creative managers = film producers, book editors, artist and repertoire personnel. Technical workers = lighting, special effects, sound engineers.
