Left foot is normal, right foot is turned inwards. May or may not be genetic basis. Most common cause of mortality in the first year of life. Intrisnic cause for the abnormality in the dvlpmt of the limb or organ (e. g. polydactyly, congenital heart disease such as missing a chamber) Something inherently wrong with the development of the organ. Compression of a growing fetus by a biomechanical force (e. g. small uterus, large fetus, oligohydramnios: fetus is swimming in amniotic fluid, and in oligohydramnios there"s a decr in amniotic fluid so there"s a compressive force against fetus) Result from secondary destruction of an organ or body region. Usually extrinsic etiology (e. g. amniotic band: arises from the amnion which is the inner membrane of the ___, and the band might compress a limb and cause amputation) Nothing intrinsically wrong, but some event caused an amputation/disruption of e. g. blood flow to the organ to prevent it from growing normally.
