Pharmacology 3620 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Microsomal Triglyceride Transfer Protein, Cholesteryl Ester, Reverse Cholesterol Transport
Document Summary
Endocrine pharm: lecture 8 drugs used to treat hyperlipidemia. Hyperlipidemia: a group of disorders of elevated blood lipids that can include high circulaing concentraions of cholesterol, triglycerides, and free faty acids (or any combinaion) Dyslipidemia is being low in something (i. e. metabolic syndrome, low hdl) Lipoproteins are spherical macromolecular complexes of lipids and speciic proteins (apolipoproteins apoc, apob100, apoe) - involved in enzymaic acivity, receptor interacion, and structural integrity. Lipoproteins transport hydrophobic neutral lipids (cholesterol esters and triglycerides) throughout the body. Chylomicron (cm) circulaing cholesterol in the blood stream / transport molecule for dietary fat from site of ingesion to site of absorpion/uilizaion. Core = triglycerides and cholesterol ester (both hydrophobic) can be packed ightly due to no charge / more eicient transport of lipids. Lipoproteins are categorized based on density, dictated by their lipid composiion. Cms are the lightest (largest and least dense), vldl, ldl, hdl (smallest and densest) Apo a1 and a2 funcion diferently from others.
