Definitions have radically shifted even over the last decade, and will continue to do so. There are a lot of misunderstandings around issues of sexuality and sexual orientation. Helps with your own life and everyday interactions. Gender ideologies are sets of interrelated ideas about what constitutes appropriate masculine and feminine behaviour. Women are generally underrepresented as characters on television and in movies. Women in the media tend to be portrayed in stereotypical ways. Men in the media tend to be portrayed in work roles and tend to be seen as being financially successful. Women are increasingly expected to present themselves as sex objects. The image of sexuality promoted in mass media is a restrictive and demeaning version of female sexuality. Thinness is held out as the ideal body shape. The industries devoted to fitness, weight-loss diets, low-calorie food, and cosmetic surgery do billions of dollars of business every year in north america.
