The idea is that you have to look at gender as a whole. There is an expectation of what it is to be a man and a woman. Young men gave fellatio to older men believed that wisdom was spread through semen - Guys tend to make the first move. Girls now talk to girls about sex. Guys tend to talk less about sex with guy friends than perceived. Goffman looked at how stigma occurs. Stigma when you feel like people are going to judge you because you are different. Compare to what i previously wrote *among schoolchildren, david and myra sadker found that over several decades, similar responses were given. Boys found nothing but bad things to say about being a girl. Even girls had trouble thinking of good things about being a girl. University students point to advantages and disadvantages of being a member of any particular sex. You can"t understand society without understanding gender.
