Education is a form of intellectual currency. It is almost mandatory to obtain a bachelor"s degree to be competitive in the job market. Socialization (i. e. social norms, how to treat others and function in a classroom) Literacy is fundamentally important in most jobs (i. e. the most important quality to have as a police officer is the ability to write - incident reports) Fulfills a babysitting function, allows parents to go work. Legitimizes specific forms of knowledge, which often changes. Sorting and selecting, school is meant to determine who will become doctors, lawyers, etc. The education system across the country is a massive employer. Canada has the highest postsecondary achievement rate (64%), which suggests that canada is well positioned to be a knowledge economy. A school system will always socialize children to become responsible adults. Schools have always been important in regards to creating a national identity in immigrant nations.
