Sociology 1027A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Industrial Revolution, Second Industrial Revolution, Complex Number
Document Summary
First industrial revolution (1700s early 1900s) There has now become a distinction b/w a place of work and where you live. Work has become centralized into locations (i. e. factories) The system is organized around a highly complex division of labour. This leads to a decline in the arts and culture (i. e. do not need to know how it all fits together, only one small aspect of the job) There has been a development of management and administrative occupations (i. e. hiring system, paying system, supervising system) Working conditions during that time were horrible. Second industrial revolution (early to mid 20th century) Ford was the first person to work on the relationship between mass production and mass consumption. As industrial production becomes more complex, people w/ more complex skills are needed (i. e. efficient production processes, find out what cars people want) The larger an organization becomes, the more important it is to have a solid accounting department.
