Using sex to sell isn"t as successful as you think it is, but it does depend on what you are advertising. Razor ad commerical: mow the lawn , walking a fine line with insulting people or annoying people with trying to be humorous, push the envelope to make it uncomfortable. Axe: uses sex to sell in a demeaning way, opposite to what dove tries to demonstrate. Woodbury soap: about to go bankrupt, women facial soap/beauty bar, almost discontinued in 1910, sales increased when they began to advertise their products through nudity, couples, romance, etc, surpassed their competitors. When looking at advertisements, society rather models younger than older: think of cancellation of dove advertisement. Since there have been men buying, there have been ads using women as the bait.
