Hard to be objective, but must attempt to. Variable: something which can change in value, composed of independent variable and dependent variable, can change, physiological component. Comes from operationalization: how do we get info, look for pattern. Research that maintains status quo, more likely to get funded. Behaviour of people at all periods in time. Kuhn, says one day it might develop into actual science, once it establishes consensus. Can"t have science that is too predictable. Probalistic science (don"t need all details, just probably) Assumes that researcher operates without preconceived ideas, assumptions, thoeries . Internal: real like numbers n/o: qualitative, non-parametric i/r: nat sci assumes this is their measure, parametric in science, always trying to prove causality. Best way to do this is through experiments. In social sci, not many experiments, but cause and effect. There has to be relationships between dep, and ind. Cause has to be there before effect. Ability to explain relationship by other factor.
