If masculinity is normal, then schur argues that: Even when they are normal, women are deviant . Feminists (& now many other theorists) argue that we live in a patriarchal society. System of masculine dominaion: gender traits associated with masculinity are highly valued, those associated with femininity are devalued. Masculine: includes power; strength; control; aggression; reason; culture. Feminine: includes beauty; weakness; nurturing; passivity; emoionality; nature. Women are perceived & reacted to at least iniially, & oten primarily, in terms of their femaleness . Categorical devaluaion - means treaing people as objects . Each woman is responded to primarily as a female . Subordinaion- means that things can be done to her . When seen as objects, they are easily ignored. Sexual objeciicaion: primary process of the subjecion of women. 4 points (with a focus on point 2) 4) women as objects in sexual behavior itself.
