Official sources of crime data, generally three primary sources. Judicial and police statistics - uniform crime report 1962 then changed it to the crime severity index. As tools evolve they keep changing things because of different flaws in different ways of reporting on things. Asking victims about their encounters with criminal offenders. General social survey (gss): established in 1985, main objective; gather on current and emerging social trends - different theme every year, victimization is surveyed every five years.
