Young offenders are resilient, however measures must be put into place to stop young offenders from being raised in artificial homes aka detention centres. Including the costs of probation and alternative measures to incarceration (costs much more, 80k, to incarcerate than supervise in community) Custody provisions under the ycja ministry of correctional services: ycja does not see custody as a main sanction, diversionary program and services used as an alternative. Implementation of: conditional supervision order person under supervision to abide by conditions set out by the court. Intensive rehabilitation custody and supervision: protection of society warrants custody as a sentence. Designed to help facilitate the rehab process. Includes aftercare programs: range of programs/services provided after a youth has completed their sentence or extrajudicial measures contract. Types of programs: 3 types: general, offender-specific, offence-specific, teaches life skills, reduces substance abuse (often first step in program), provide education and cognitive skills (provide ability to problem solve, etc.
