Art of the Pitch - January 23, 2013 Objective - Prepare for Pitch Assignment - Improve individual presentation skills - Set you up for success in the ‘real world’ 2 key things that are needed: -layout the problem you are trying to solve - the value of your proposition and how your venture will solve this problem Pain Statement and Gain Statement: Structure: - Pain Statement: o Demonstrate the need the product will address - Gain Statement o He value proposition and competitive advantage – how your product solves the pain - WIIFM (What’s in it for me (the investor)) o Why the idea is worth the investor giving more time to listen - These elements must be presented clearly and concisely Keys to a Great Pitch - See it as more than a public speech – it’s more of a conversation – talk to them not at them - Be yourself – be authentic - Know your stuff – prepare – practice - Make a personal and emotional connection o How you say something is more important at times than what you say Open and Close - Start and end with a bang - Make a bold
