Value: a broad tendency to prefer certain states of affairs over others. The values have to do with what we consider good or bad. Motivational, bc they signal the attractive and unattractive aspects of our env. Signal how we believe we should and should not behave. Terminal values: something someone wants to achieve in their lifetime, freedom, self-respect, kind of like goals, hope to achieve. Instrumental goals: how you go about achieving those goals, being loving, responsible, how you achieve them. Broad tendency: values are very general and they do not predict behavior in specific situations very well. Traditionalist: grew up in the shadow of the two wars (portrayed as respectful) Baby boomers: faced vibrant economy (cynical, confident, pragmatic ) Generation x and y: dual career families, divorce (cause them to value relationships less) A good fit between a persons values and those of the organization lead to positive work attitudes and behaviors.
