Document Summary

Perception: the process of interpreting the messages of our senses to provide order and meaning to the environment, our actions are based on our interpretation of reality, we process incoming sensations. We don"t necessarily perceive the world as it really is. In other words, reality is the perception of a unique individual. In other words, our perceived explanations may be wrong, but they help us to resolve the ambiguities we detect and are uncomfortable with. Bruner"s perceptual process: note that this is efficient but may not be accurate!! Selective: we do not use all of the available cues, so some are overemphasized and some are underemphasized, this is efficient but it can both help and hinder perceptual accuracy. Constant: the tendency for the target to be perceived in the same way over time and across situations, getting off on the wrong foot.
