BU288 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Agreeableness, Job Satisfaction, Externals
Document Summary
Bu288 lecture 10: not related to job satisfaction. The big five tend to hold up cross culturally. Related to work motivation and job satisfaction. Individuals with higher conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and emotional stability perform better on a team. High conscientiousness, extraversion, and emotional stability have been found to be associated with higher income, and occupational status. Locus of control refers to individuals" beliefs about the location of the factors that control their behaviour. High internals believe that the opportunity to control their own behaviour resides within themselves. High externals believe that external forces determine their behaviour. Compared to internals, externals see the world as an unpredictable, chancy place in which luck, fate a, or powerful people control their destinies. Internals tend to see stronger links between the effort they put into their jobs and the performance level that they achieve. They perceive to a greater degree than externals that the organization will notice high performance and reward it.
