New program: must be open to learn, self-efficacy, locus of control- overcome adversity, proactive people are good at making changes, looking for places to improve, etc. Behaviourist would say they need a reward system- everyone who uses the new system is rewarded or give them a punishment. Social cognitive theory: need to receive more training, observance is important, so show off the first person who has learned and adapted. They need encouragement so they have social persuasion telling them that they can do it. Use personality psychologist (locus of control), behaviourist approach (reward/punishment), and social cognitive approach (build self-efficacy) It"s human nature to make sense of our world, especially when negative things happen: want to know and anticipate our threats. Those who did evolved and the others died. We are limited in our cognitive resources we can get cognitive overload: if we attended to every stimuli, we would be overwhelmed.
