BU288 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Negative Affectivity, Neuroticism, Confirmation Bias
Document Summary
Attribution error, we like boxes, lazy thinkers, individual perceptual errors, black sheep effect, groupthink, overconfidence bias, level of self-efficacy/group-efficacy, group polarization (shifts) A group of people collectively decide on a course of action that is counter to the preferences of any of the individuals in the group: do not raise any objections, just go along with the group. End up going on a trip even though none of them really wanted to. Individual decision making: heuristic decision making- conative process, conscious or unconscious, that ignore the part of framing. Heuristic/cognitive biases belief that decision making is not rational: simplifying strategies or rules of thumb in making decisions, generally helpful but can lead to errors. 1- it"s easier to think of words that begin with a certain letter (laziness) 2- availability heuristic: people predict the frequency of an event, or a proportion within a population, based on how easily or how readily available (vivid) and example can be brought to mind.
