Document Summary

Orc is the complex that recognizes origins. Components are activated by cyclins and kinases: licensing. Pre-initiation complex is licensed but doesn"t work yet so it has to wait till the right cell cycle stage where cyclins and kinases are around. There is a short stretch before activation and ring: activation. Cdc and cyclin kinase phosphorylates stuff and that activates the origin. There are things that can block these steps. *overall very similar to prokaryotes but there are more players here and more regulation. In eukaryotes, rna rimer is removed that rnase hi and fen1 (5" -> 3" exonuclease), and gap is lled by dna pol . There are differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic dna replication but in general, eukaryotic replication is more complex with more components. Chromosomes of eukaryotic cells are linear - so the dna replication machinery cannot replicate the very end of the lagging strand. Eukaryotic chromosomes end in direct repeat sequences called telomeres.
