35% (or 25%!) of the people coming down with chickenpox, had it before. People have been getting shingles in earlier years. Because they don"t get the boost anymore (they don"t get exposed to the virus as much). (pictures) The vaccine must be given when the child is 12 months of age. Then later 4-6 years of age as a booster. And then there are some options at a later age : 19-49 years of age to prevent shingles. Then from age 60 after, in order to prevent shingles. The virulent parental virus, here we"re taking a virus and we"re using chemicals on the virus. Virus particles are inactivated by chemical procedures: formaldehyde, detergents. Infectivity and viral ability to replicate are eliminated but antigenicity is not compromised: what we need is the proteins in the membrane which are recognized, so you inject pieces of the membrane. Killed vaccines : polio (salk) : the killed vaccine.
